We had a great few days away with lots and lots of driving but we like it, you get to see so much more of this beautiful country this way. Unfortunately we would have liked to take more time to get there and home but maybe next time. Now I had never heard of the white Kangaroos at Bordertown but I had been assured that they were there so as we were not able to leave until lunch time because of Michael’s work we stopped at Bordertown for the night on our way over to Victor Harbor. The White Kangaroos are gorgeous. I really could have watched them for hours. They were so white and they just looked like they had a white woolly coat on.
We wanted to take a couple of days before Michael had to be in Adelaide for work just to relax and let the kids have a holiday so we went to Victor Harbor to hang out and just be. Michael has a month of leave owing so taking a couple of days was not much to ask. We did all the normal things including trying to sleep in but that didn’t always work. We went to the Whale museum which was really good and learnt really why the area was called Encounter Bay. Not because of the encounter with the whales but because of Matthew Flinders and Nicola Baudin a Frence scientist meeting there. We went on the horse drawn tram to Granite Island to see the penguins. We were the only ones at the feeding that day at the rescue centre. The work is all done by volunteers and the money we paid to see the feeding is actually used to buy the food to feed the rescued penguins. They don’t have any government funding. It was great to see these beautiful little creatures being helped before being sent back out to the wild. Mind you there was a poor penguin there Bob who had penguin dementia. He kept forgetting where he was and what burrow was his so now every time someone forgets something we would call them Bob. He was a lovely penguin.
Whales were also in the area so I was determined that we would not leave Victor Harbor without seeing a whale. Well we had been there for 3 nights and were packed up ready to leave. There was a little festival on in Victor Harbor for the start of the School Holidays in S.A. so we took the kids down to have a ride on a couple of the rides and for me to go on the Ferris wheel. I get motion sickness so that is as about as wild as I can get. It was a nice ride and actually the fastest one I have been on.

Well we heard that whales had been spotted in Port Elliot so off we went and we found them about 100 meters off shore. We took heaps of photos in the vain attempt that we would get a tail shot but in the hour or so that we watched these gorgeous creatures we saw 3 tails out of the water but we missed the shots. Michael did get a good shot of the spray from the blow hole which I thought was great. How great was this to actually see a whale in the wild while standing on solid ground and not in a boat getting sick. I had seen little whales in zoos while we lived in the U.S. but nothing compares to seeing them in the wild.
Well enough of our holiday I have a couple of pages to show you.
One of the June Challenges for Scrapbook Top 50 was a make and bake and you had this list of ingredients to make the page: 2 photos, green, 5 flowers, 8 brads, 1 alfa, and the word new. I had these photos from when we went to Bunyip State Park in January before the devastating bushfires on Black Saturday here in Victoria and it really hadn’t been that long since there had been a fire through the state park and the park had started to regenerate, so the page is about the park bursting into new life again after these bushfires.
This crazy page I managed to use for 2 of the challenges for SBT50. We could purchase a scrap kit and the challenge was at least 70% of the products on the page were to be from the kit. The only thing that wasn’t from the kit was the pearls on the arrows. Also we had a Lyrics challenge and we had to use a line or two from the song that was provided. This was a fun page.
We also had to do an off the page project for June which was kind of fun. I don’t normally do them, I am more the card and scrapbook page kind of girl but I did make this little carry bag for Sarah to carry a couple of books in. You can find this great little tote that can be made for cards as well from this great blog www.inkingidaho.blogspot.com.
It was all about the Drama Kings and Queens in our life for the June Cyber Crop as you can tell from the layouts that you have seen through June as you can tell by some of the pages over the last few post. One of the challenges was to make a card for the Drama King or Queen in our life for their birthday using the colours of one of the challenges. The colours were Lime, Purple and Red. Not your normal colours I must admit but I have just bought Sarah a long sleeve T-shirt with those colours. We also had to use a crown that was part of the crop that was generously provided by one of the sponsors My2Angesls
