Welcome to week 11 of the Heart of Christmas Blog Hop! Each Monday the Art With Heart team love to bring you some Christmas inspiration to help you get ready for Christmas with your cards, gift giving and decorations. We will be doing this right up until the end of November.

Today I have decided to bring you Iris Folding for my card. I had never done it before and I thought it would be fun to try. I found a template on line and if you google Iris Folding you will find many designs you can try. This is the one I found and used.

Iris Folding
I chose the medium design which means you just need a few more pieces of paper. I thought the 6x6 pieces of the Lights Aglow DSP would be perfect for this card! I cut 2 cm strips and folding in 0.5 of a cm. I found that if you folded the strips in half when you got to the larger diagonal at one end you need to have the wider strip.

I started with a Basic White piece of card stock and cut a circle with the layering circle dies in just the right size for the the iris pattern. Then I put it through the  Merry Melody 3D embossing folder.

I then turned it upside down and placed it over the Iris Pattern.

Take your strips of Lights Aglow DSP place the folded edge on the inside of the open circle along the line starting with 1 then working your way around taping them down with washi tape and cutting of the extra and you will be able to use the extra length so cut it as close to the edge as possible.
Keep going until all has been covered and taped down and I changed colours after layers of each colour.

I then popped the completed Iris up on dimensionals on a piece of Lights Aglow DSP and then popped that on a card base of Soft Succulent.
While I was at it a strip of the Lights Aglow to the inside of my card for decoration.

For the sentiment I used the Celebrate with Tags stamp set and I wanted the Merry Christmas in 1 line not underneath each other so I took out my stamparatus and put a piece of Basic White down and put some tape over the word "Christmas" and inked up "Merry". Took off the tape and stamped "Merry". I cleaned the stamp and then lined up "Christmas" next to "Merry" and taped up "Merry" and inked "Christmas" and took the tape off and stamped "Christmas" next to "Merry"

Then came the cutting out with the Stylish Shapes Dies.

So I placed the die on one end and put it through the Cut & Emboss Machine but not all the way so I didn't cut the "Christmas" off! Then place the die back into the stitched holes and move the die along until you have it in the place that you are happy with and put it through just far enough to cut the other end and not cut off "Merry". A great way to make a longer banner when needed!

To finish off my card I thought the bauble needed to hang from a branch of the Christmas tree so I cut some pine branches from the Holly Berry Dies in Crumb Cake and Evening Evergreen and mad this luscious bow is known as the Tammy Bow, designed by Tammy Wilson and I thought it was perfect for this card using the Gold and Vanilla satin edged ribbon.

I had fun making this card and there are many different designs of Iris folds that you can find on the internet for you to try with your off cuts of DSP to use them up!

Wow O wow Sharon. Your beautiful bauble using an iris design is amazing. I love that it is set against an embossed background with some pine for the bauble to hang from and the delightful Tammy bow. All so gorgeous. Xxx

Yes, Sharon, this is a brilliant technique (one I haven't used in years). It is very effective and I love how you used different papers for the layers to create your bauble. Great tip with the sentiment die too!
